gas and electricity and moving house?
Can anyone advise please, what happens when you move house, do you carry on with the same energy supplier/s you had at your old address, or do you get billed by whoever the previous owner of your new house had?
Sorry if this seems a silly question, but the last time I moved, there was only two suppliers..one for gas, one for leccy, so it was never a problem.
Im currently not in a 'contract period with a deal' with any supplier, in case that makes any difference.
Thanks for your help.

I just moved house and automatically became a customer of the 2 companies the previous occupier was with (EDF and Npower) I contacted the company I was with at my old address (Swalec/Ebico) and asked to stay with them.
It took 5 days for them to take the electricity and 26 days for the gas.
I had some issues with my final bill etc but all sorted now.I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0 -
great signature icefall, made me chuckleThere are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

As Icefall says, when you move in to your new property you have initially to be customers of the companies suppying the property(it is called a 'deemed contract)
However you then contact your present supplier - or anyone else - and say you want to switch to that company.0 -
Thank you for the replies, I will want to review things when Ive moved anyway, as my current suppliers are probably not giving me the best deal.
So I just get billed automatically byt he current provider for the property, so as long as im not going to be automatically tied in to new contract thats great!0 -
As such as you move in - call the current provider of the property and give them the meter readings.
Same for when you leave current property.
Ie don't end up paying for someone elses usage.0 -

Good point Viper, we are planning to take readings as we leave here, and as soon as we get there, some one has also advised writing it down, and getting a witness to sign it, to say it is correct. Also to take a photo of the meter reading, which will be dated, as proof (theres nothing like belt and bracing it;))0 -
"As SUCH" crikey - I need to stop take this energy saving lark so seriously and turn the lights on! As SOON!0
