Hi all, I was hoping someone on here could help with a little problem. A friends laptop had a a xp home o/s and put on a xp pro version, only the home edition stayed on fo some reason. How can we remove the old home edition to get rid of the black screen asking which one we want to use?
Thanks

If you know what you're doing, then edit boot.ini on the boot drive (almost certainly C:\) and either remove the line that mentions XP home, or (if the menu is selecting the Pro version by default) change the timeout to 1 (you'll only see the menu for 1 second before it chooses the default).
Take a backup of boot.ini beforehand, and... don't make a mistake, because if you get it wrong you will have likely have a very broken PC. If you're not sure, post the contents of boot.ini onto the forum and will show you what to remove.0 -
