Hi, I'm thinking of doing the Open University course db123 - You and your money. I've received a financial support booklet to fill in but I'm stuck on something on the first page!!

The booklet says -
'Each application must be linked to a course of study that counts towards an undergraduate qualification' and also '...be studying at undergraduate level towards a qualification (for example a BA or BSc, certificate or diploma)'

The course I'm interested in counts as 30 credits, but that's as far as I'm interested in going at the moment. I don't know if I'll want to take it further at some point in the future, if I struggle with this course then no.

Does this mean that I won't get funding because I might only want to do this one course?

I have tried ringing OU but it seems like they're mighty busy at the moment and only taking calls for courses starting in October, mine would start in November.

Thanks.

Just been re-reading the OU website and it looks like I might be able to go for the 'Open Degree' qualification. I think this means that I could I study a diverse range of subjects. But what if after doing this course I decide I don't want to study anymore. Would I have to pay back any funding I'd received?

Just tell them you want to count it towards the open degree and you'll be fine - you may find like many people that once you start you'll just keep on doing courses.

You wouldn't have to pay back any funding you had received.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

any parts of an open degree that you take can be held for you for quite a number of years - so even if you do one part of a degree and then some years later want to do another then you can do.

the Ou is very flexible like that and im starting my psychology course in november
