confused.com giving out details despite saying not to

Options
Ugh just wanted to rant.

Im getting called every hour on the hour by various companies trying to sell me home insurance. Usually automated messages, but sometimes silent calls frrom the same numbers that just hang up. Keep leaving me voice mails which cost 10p to check each time just to hear automated messages saying 'We are sorry we missed your call, we will call back later'.

Started happening 20 minutes after i used confused.com for a home insurance quote an i was EXTRA EXTRA careful to tell them NOT to give my details out or contact me.

On the rare occasion i HAVE got a human on the line i tell them i am on TPS and im not interested in what they are selling and to take me off their calling list, yet the calls persist.

Totally unnacceptable!!

That seems totally unacceptable. Is there an official body you can report this to, like the Data Protection Registrar?

You should always use non-existent number for these sites as they always give it out. I use an old mobile phone.

As part of the T+C's you signed when getting a quote through confused, it says its passes on your contact info to the insurance companys when it gets a quote and you may be contacted by them , maybe you should have read it first before you went ahead.

Being on the TPS register means nothing as you have given them permission by agreeing to the T+C's so they have broken no rules

I didnt actually accept any quote through them, and as far as i could see i explicitly ticked boxes to say that my details would NOT be passed on to anyone.

Seems pretty odd i can tick a box saying that, yet in the T & Cs it says the exact opposite.

Not saying your wrong at all, in fact your probably right, but its not exactly made clear. I assumed by ticking the box i was explicitly waiving any right confused.com had to pass on my details (which would be the default stance)

Whatever you say, i have surely still revoked any permission given to the companies that continue to call every hour when i have spoken (repeatedly) to them and said i dont wish to be contacted and to remove me from their calling list.

    Sorry im being unclear.

I meant i used them to get a list of quotes from different companies, but i didnt follow through the links provided and purchase the insurance, i just browsed through the list presented to me.

You are right about the T & Cs though it seems.

Still unsure how they still have ermission after me telling them to stop calling (repeatedly) and remove me from their calling lists though.

They pass on all your details otherwise they cant quote, its how all the sites work, although some give the option to opt out of marketing by ticking a box
