Guardian article on energy (and Money!) saving bulbs

Has anybody seen this piece on the Guardian website? It's describes how the writer was able to cut his elec bills by 60% by switching to energy saving bulbs.

I'm only just beginning to look at this option, mainly as a financial exercise, so I'm keen to learn more, and to find out what MSE-ers think of the benefits of using low-energy bulbs.

When I had 2 teenagers living at home I fitted energy saving lightbulbs in all but my kitchen which has a strip light. My electricity bills came down by 30%. After they left home it dropped by another 30%.
