Money in New Zealand

Hi all, i'm soon going to NZ for 4 weeks and my current bank account charges me every time my credit card is used abroad. This is of course very annoying so I was hoping to get one of the credit cards that you can load up money prior to a visit but it appears that these are for Europe or the US. I really don't want to use my debit card or carry travellers cheques so does anyone have any way I can easily access my holiday money?

Travelex do a cash passport in $NZ
But don't forget it has charges too - which might compare unfavourably with those on your credit or debit card. The main one is the loading on the exchange rate when you load it - about which they are a little coy.

New zealand do there own prepay credit card, think they had it before the UK did as we went out a couple of years ago and OH's grandad gave us one as a present. Maybe you could look on google. HTH0 -
Post Office and Nationwide credit cards are generally the best for using abroad so you could try to get one of these.
Some of the pre-pay cards can be used anywhere so it might be worth investigating this further.0 -
Thomas Cook also have a card you can pre load, not sure of the their rates but you could enquire.0

We are doing a trip over for 10 weeks soon I have been in touch with a bank over there ASB. Think it's going to be best for us to open an account with them and just transfer cash into it. Seems very straightforward to open an account will only have to pay 1 transfer fee with my bank here. Helps having family there who can do the running around for you though0

All of the prepay cards can be used anywhere - it's just that there are (extra) fees if you use them in a country different to that of the currency on them.0
