Family Days Out...Any Ideas?

                    Afternoon, All,
As ever, I'm looking for some advice!
I've got 2 young kiddies and would like to be able to take them out a bit more (not just to the local park ) but I'm struggling for ideas on where to take them.
I've got a daughter who'll be 2 soon and a son on 17weeks.
I think I'd like to be able to get them out more for my benefit more than theirs, I know that sounds a bit selfish but I've feeling a bit cooped up and would like us to be able to do something with their dad instead of just the same old boring routine of him coming home, having tea, play, baths then putting the kids to bed!
I'm not sure if maybe they're too young to visit wildlife parks and that kind of thing
Any suggestions will be warmly welcomed!

You might want to give an idea of location and means of transport so people may be better able to assist.0

Yeah that would probably have helped!
We've got our own car and we live in the Highlands.
I can't take them swimming as my skin reacts badly to chlorine and OH isn't keen on taking them both at such at young age.Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Never too young for a wildlife park, a petting zoo would be a bonusIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Probably a bit young for this http://www.landmarkpark.co.uk/attractions/ no idea if that is anywhere near you - "The Highlands" is a big place
This would be good for them to enjoy http://www.highlandwildlifepark.org/0 -
Playgroups for tots nearby? Coffee mornings for mums?
By the way, don't think you're being selfish by wanting to get the house more. Sounds like a good idea to me.Just to win anything would be great!!0 -

Thanks, although they are quite near to us, Landmark doesn't have very much in it for kids their age and the wildlife park is a bit of a dive...the animals all look half dead!Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Anywhere with animals is good....DD's love a trip to the pet shop!
This time of year what about going looking for conkers? Or going for a walk through the leaves in the wood?
We go to a local duck pond to feed the ducks.
We go to a theme park aimed at young ones. Your almost 2 year old would like something like this I am sure. Also soft play area's are good. At that age you could go when it is quieter....
Have you got any friends that you could take them out with? I guess it depends when your OH gets home but I know mine are just settling down for the evening when their Dad is arriving home if he is working locally (he often stays away all week).
Could your OH go swimming with one whilst the other is with you? I can not reccomend swimming highly enough. Ours have both gone since really young. When they both had lessons where I was in the pool the youngest had her lesson first whilst big sis (now 4) would sit on the side then a quick swap over & little one would be in her pram whilst the eldest was in. Our pool is small & has just the lessons in so it taught DD a really good lesson in being safe around the water.
Also do you have tumble tots or anything that you could go to?

The mums and babies group is on a Wednesday and I can't make it as I have to take them to my youngests physio appointments.
There are a few mums that get together but they were in the same ante-natal class...no newbies welcome :rolleyes:Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Hi Nicky,
We went to feed the ducks a couple of times but our wee girl is scared of them! They're quite tame so came right up to her and took he bread out of her hand, she freaked out and took off running along the side of the river! We had to run after her incase she fell in!:rotfl:
Your swimming idea is a good one and will bear it in min but I wanted something we could all get involved in.
Everything near us is generally for older kids but a walk in the woods is such a simple idea...I can't be very good at this parenting thing if I can't even think of that!Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Have a word with your health visitor, they'll know what's going on and where.
When I had dd (now 3) I went to a new mums group arranged by the hv's. We're still friends now, see each other all the time. It was a complete life saver as my boys are much older (18 & 20) so I didn't know anyone with young children!!
If not a new mums group, then she may know of other people in a similar situation that she can put you in touch with.0
