  • First is not a "Blank" display is it??? Shows your desktop, thats all you get on a fresh Vista install anyway

Windows key + R gives you the RUN dialogue box then type explorer

Refer to my post above - 3 above.

Windows key + R does not work, can get into run via task manager and have typed in explorer or explorer.exe but i get an error message as:
windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permission to access them.

I need some serious help please. How can i get explorer.exe to work now when it says Im denied access!?

If you can get into the taskmanager Ctrl+Alt+Del go to the process tab and see what processes are running.

Have you tried to boot up in safe mode? Also what security are you running?

There are 25/26 processes running, mainly svchost.exe etc and stuff like that. Seem to recall seeing MDM.exe too.

How do i boot up in safe mode?

I use AVG for anti virus but it does not appear to be running on task bar. Basically, i can type in, firefox.exe on the new task tab to start firefox and use it, but others dont work.
  • Just bringing this up in case someone can help me.

Turn the computer on, start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. Ensure that the Safe mode (I would pick safe mode with networking) option is selected. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

    More problem now!!

So far, the windows task manager was the only one working, so i got into firefox via it and use the internet. Today, suddenly the windows task manager is now not working. When i press ctrl+alt+del, it says, task manager has been disabled by your administrator.

I have a firefox page opened now which I am using, nothing else is on. I presume if i close this firefox page, i will never be able to use my laptop again because the screen would be black - no taskbar, no start up menu, no icons, task manager or windows+r ndoes not work.

    Help please ..... :(
