That one is a cause to be happy. He's supposed to be getting you the most appropriate deal for your needs, including saying he can't do better than what you have already.

He's passed an ethics test, whether you knew it or not. A poor one might have switched product anyway, to earn commission at your expense or without benefit to you.

I think if you go back and re read post 37 thats not what he said at all. He admitted his own mortgage deal wasnt very good!

He may think the deal is no good but that doesnt mean it isnt and it doesnt mean the IFA can beat it. I dont do mortgages but my mortgage advisers tell me that deals currently available to intermediaries arent exactly attractive at the moment.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

For the ethics of the IFA it's not so much the rate as the way it was handled. A straightfroward "good deal" response is enough to start showing that this is probably not one of the few in the business who might try to exploit their customers.
