Barclaycard Mercers and token payments

Hi, just looking for some advice on the next step to take, my partner is currently unemployed and entitled to no benefits as I work full time, so she has zero income.

A letter was written and faxed to Barclaycard offering token payments of £5.00p/m which I was willing to pay for her by standing order. The account was then passed on to Mercers - which I understand is Barclaycard's in-house collection services.

They called my partner today to say that that was not enough and they wanted at least £35.00 pm which I cannot afford. So what should we do next?

    Just continue paying the £5pm
  • Thanks for the reply - I haven't yet set up the standing order - I was waiting for them to acknowledge the letter and the request to hold interest charges etc. so should I just set it up and pay the £5.00 pm and ignore any threats?

    is she signed on ?
have you actually checked she is not entitled to JSA?
    try http://www.entitledto.co.uk/

however, if you can't pay then your can't pay and she will just have to say £5 is all she can afford.

without knowing your full financial details..whether you rent or own, children etc its impossible to give further advice

however you might be better off posting on the debt free wannabe board and posting up an SOA...format http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
-you will receive lots of undertsanding, support and advice there.
  • Yes she does sign on but only to get her NI stamps, her contribution JSA ran out and is not entitled to income based JSA because I work more than 24 hours per week.

Can mods move threads? I was trying to decide which was the best forum to post in!
