BT Line Cancellation

I had a BT line activated on Friday 18th September 2009 (free due to ongoing offer), on the basis that i would purchase 02 broadband (bt line required). However on having my line activated and waiting a few days for 02 to check the speed i find out that they cannot provide a service given the length of cable/distance from the exchange. I then checked with BT broadband where they can provide me with unlimited usage and up to 20MB connection speeds BUT the max i can get is 3MB costing a jaw dropping sum of £24 per mth. Needless to say im not happy and asked BT what it would cost to cancel the BT line which costs me £11.25 per month. I was then told by a customer advisor that i would have to pay the £122.50 charge of setting a line up and possibly pay the remainder of my 18mth line rental to get free.
Is there any other way out of this??? I really only need the bt line for a broadband package as i currently have 2x contract phones.
Thanks in advance

Hi Gerry,
Not good news in relation to the provision of broadband due to line length. I understand that you only need a BT line for broadband, I also see that you say that it will cost £24 a month which you may already know is for the Unlimited Option 3.
Have you considered either Option 1 with a 10GB monthly usage at £15.65 a month (12 month contract) or Option 2 with a 20GB monthly usage at £20.54 a month (12 month contract). If you haven't you can check them out at http://www.bt.com/btbroadband and PM me by return if you wish to change your broadband option.
Regards,
Jon.
