plastering for one wall only

having ripped off wallpaper in our lounge, one wall (16 ft long) is really bumpy and having painted over it, it still looks awful. when the sunlight shines on it it looks horrendous. the wall is 16ft long and has double patio doors in it, do you know how much this would cost - or is it too small a job for a plasterer to come out for?

Not too small, you could do the prep yourself. At least a couple of coats of PVA, last coat just before skimming so it's still slightly tacky. Also the corners round doors may need prep,possibly that corner mesh, check with a plasterer.

As said do as much of the prep as you can first ...wash down with a warm sugarsoap solution to remove remnants of wallpaper adhesive, scrape/sand off any loose paint if there is any on the walls. I wouldn't bother with the PVA though..leave that to the plasterer to do so it becomes his responsibility to get right..if there are any comebacks the plasterer (like plaster crazing over) could blame your PVA! Beside i always think PVA is relatively expensive to buy in small quantities and if i buy too much it often ends up in the bin if it develops mould!

Presumably all the wallpaper etc has been removed. The OP has painted the wall.
