    ok, the coat hanger trick can still work on modern cars, you need a length of stiff wire like a coat hanger, first you need to open up a gap to gain access so to do this you will need a wedge, you need to bend open the drivers door at the top left corner by driving in a wedge to allow you get a wire in, its a bit daunting bending a door but it should go as there are no locks or fixings up there. when you have a gap bend the wire to suit and try to get down to the door handle (or the boot release button if it has one)

    Thanks, we will try the coat hanger in the morning.
    A thankyou is payment enough .

    Seeing as your location is Warrington or Wigan you are in a prime location for Liverpool I am sure someone will be able to help your son get in his car.

    Do you not know anyone who is a member of the AA? get the AA member round to the car and tell the AA that you think he has locked the keys in the car, it is the person that is covered by the AA not the car so they should help the person get in to the car. hopfully the keys maybe in the car ?????

    worth a try and better than bending the door open or using the universal key (brick)

    Also the Police can sometimes help. No, really! Try phoning them before resorting to the "mans way" (brute force or ignorance:rotfl:

    I would have tried a coat hanger down between the glass and the door behind the rain seal and try to flick the lock inside the door.....no bending doors.

    you missunderstand the door doesnt bend like you imagine, it mearly flexes, no harm will come to the door.
    between the lock and the top hinge there is nothing holding the top 3/4 of the door to the car thats why a small wedge will force the door out without any damage. if you ever get the chance to see a proper lock out kit it comes with various sizes of wedges for this exact job, i know i have one.;)

    Take a door lock out (or if he can remove it, the fuel filler cap).Go to a decent garage and they will be able to read the key number from the discs in the lock.I'm not going to go into detail on a public board, suffice to say they will get the key number for you enabling you to buy a new key.

    Solution is simple really.

    Ford will cut a new key from the car details. They can most likely get this off the registration if not changed since new.
    However, if they do need the VIN number it is stamped on the engine bay plate under the bonnet... but I hear you cry the bonnet release is inside the car!

    Well that's the easy part. Don't bother trying to break windows/pick locks etc. Bonnets still work on the simple process that a cable pulls a catch. SO, do one of 2 things;
    Remove the plastic grill and trigger the bonnet release by hand
    OR, reach up from under the car and pull the release cable by hand.

    Once the bonnet is open note the VIN and phone ford to prepare a key for your collection.

    err yeh, problem is even bonnet lock are shielded these days to stop you doing just that.

    Anyway i think they sorted it with a coathanger.
