Replacement of whole Central Heating System

I bought a property in May and I got a good price but knew pretty quickly I would have to do something drastic with the boiler/heating system. Its a 1986 Baxi back boiler, old leaking tank and 1970s radiators.
Bascially I need a new boiler (combi?), new radiators, new thermo a whole new system. I got the customary British Gas guys coming to give me a quote plus I will get two local ones which will inevitably be cheaper.
Firstly where do I look for local ones? Wit Yellow Pages I have no idea if they are good or cowboys, I feel I need customer reviews etc.
Also how much will this all cost. Its a 3 bed terraced, 7 radiators, need old ripped out and new put in. I have no idea anyone gotg a ball park figure?
Cheers

Why do people ask this question BG are more expensive we all know this dont we ?
Some people on here ask why do people get BG .... because they have a recall should any work not be correct do you really think a local plumber will care after he has had they money if you think so... so fool youHis Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0 -

When I had BG round for a quote for a new GCH system, previously warm air. Their labour rate was very competitive. It was the ridiculous radiator prices that had me falling on the floor.
£300 for a bathroom towel rad, Screwfix knock the same ones out for £70.:rotfl:0 -

Daft, biased point. Even if the local plumber died after he'd fitted your CH system, you would STILL be left with up to 3 grand to make sure it was kept running fine. And aren't you generalising about local plumbers here? I'm suspecting this is what you are taught to say at work but spare us the propaganda, please. Our local plumber is absolutely fantastic - he lives within the community so has to be or people would be knocking on his door, lol.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

Bias because what I admitted the company I work for the installation of and boiler or central heating boiler is no doubt the most expensive but people choose them because of the name oh come on really.1carminestocky wrote: »Even if the local plumber died after he'd fitted your CH system, you would STILL be left with up to 3 grand to make sure it was kept running fine..
I take it you would be hoping he dropped down dead on the way to collect the money lol.1carminestocky wrote: »aren't you generalising about local plumbers here? I'm suspecting this is what you are taught to say at work but spare us the propaganda, please.
No benefit would come to me if I was singin and dancing BG as I work in the retention part of the company :A (I'm the discount guy,)
All I was putting across is not everyone is happy with having a local guy do installation as after he is been paid he really may not care. people pay more for the "Gas Board" to do the installation because they trust them bless lol.1carminestocky wrote: »Our local plumber is absolutely fantastic - he lives within the community so has to be or people would be knocking on his door, lol.
I'm sure he is good at what he does. His Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0 -
There's a good chance that if you go with BG that a local plumber will be doing the work anyway, as they sub contract the work out. Before anyone from BG start the denials I know this to be fact as that's what happened to me....not that I'm complaining as we got BG to replace our old boiler with the top end condening combi boiler and a couple of extra radiators, system clean & flush for £3500.
Addmittedly we could have got it cheaper, but then quality of materials and the fact that BG will be around in the future made our minds up for us to go with them. The work on my house was 5 years ago....so don't use the price above as a guidline!0 -
go to gassafe site and get at least three quotes...check to see if a combi will suit your needs, more suited to small dwellings with one or two people. a chemical powerflush is advisable, thermostatic valves on rads, if rads are old and pitted/rusty it may be prudent to renew. controls will need updating, programmer, room stat etc... would agree with cardew's ballpark £3,500 seems close, good luck with it.There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!
