Mis-sold items on ebay, what to do?

Hi, i recently won an auction for two dresses described in the listing as being sizes 6-8. I received them yesterday and on the labels they are M and L, i am a size 6 so both of the dresses are too big. I messaged the seller who has offered to refund the dresses but not the postage. Can i claim the postage back as the dresses were mis described? Thanks

Open a dispute and the postage will be refunded but you will have to pay to return them.

I've messaged her asking for a full refund, will see what she says and then open a dispute, thanks :)
  • I've been offered the 2.95 she paid for the postage but not the full amount i paid. She's quite adament they are the right sizes.. Can i push for the full amount? It's not much but i feel i should get a full refund.

Have you raised a formal dispute through paypal? You need to do this, posting the dresses back by trackable means, for paypal to adjudicate on this. If she's being awkward, you should do that rather than continue with her wrangling. How annoying and what a novice she is.
  • I'm not sure on what planet a M or L equates to a 6/8 so you have my sympathy there, however, this just shows how important it is to always check the actual measurements when buying clothes on eBay.
  • Been through exactly the same recently. Saw an item for my daughter, I asked for specific measurements as they weren't listed. She gave me size so I bought item. When I got it, it was not the size she stated and evne undone did not stretch to this size. I contacted her. She finally agreed to refund me incl return post so I sent item, by recorded. RM attempted to deliver on 1/9, she wan't in, she did not arrange redelivery for another 9 days. I then had to open a dispute to get my refund as she didn't do it. I had the excuse her account was frozen. I finally got the refund but she didn't refund the ret post as she promised, she now claims she hasn't got the money. She even sent the item 2nd class when she stated 1st recorded. I am so frustrated that I ave had to pay return post for her error and that she had promised to pay it, I had even offered to resell it to avoid additional cost but she asked for it to be returned. I don't have a leg to stand on with getting my extra money back, as promised, so she will be getting one big fat negative from me. Good luck with yours, lets hope your seller is more reasonable.

Will definatly check exact measurements next time, having to escalate the claim now as she is still sure they are the right sizes.. They are japanese dresses and as they don't fit her (think she was a size 10?) she decided they were sizes 6 and 8. Gah, annoying. At the end of the day she said they were 6/8, they are japanese M and L. I don't understand why she has to argue her case..

Dresses from the Far East are aimed at very tiny slim framed ladies. I was horrified to see that I needed to shop in their outsize XXL section for a standard UK sized 14.

AS there is such a huge difference in the sizes sellers really ought to make it clear that the stated label sizes are not UK sizes but Far east sizes.

Have you tried the dresses on or were you guided by the labels?

Quite right. I'm a standard UK size 8 but when shopping in the Far East I had to buy clothing marked as a Large. When I wanted shoes (I'm a size 7) the assistants fell about laughing and directed me to the men's department. :o

I sell a lot of Indian-made hippy clothing in my eBay shop, I give accurate measurements in my descriptions and cut the S M and L labels out as buyers used to receive a top marked as a "LARGE" and assume I'd sent the wrong one rather than try it on first.
