Canon MV750i problem viewing

When I turn on my Canon MV750i camcorder on, although I get the date\time viewer displayed. I cannot see the image through either the screen or the viewfinder (as if the caps left on), it will allow me to record but with no image. I can however playback any previous recordings from the tape.

Does anyone know if there is anyway to resolve this (without forking out a fortune on repairs)???
