Kitchen Fitting advise reuired

My son had his new kitchen delivered by B& this morning,so we all pitched in to fit it.

We are having trouble with the integrated dishwasher,we can't decide how much clearance there should be between the top of it,and the worktop above.

If we adjust the legs of the whole kitchen at a set level, then find out there is too much/little of a gap,the whole kitchen will be out.

There is also an issue the the panel that you stick to the front of it,if that is a different level to the doors on the next unit, will it look very odd,or will it be hardly noticeable?

Am i worrying over nothing, and should we just set the worktops at the same hight as the old one.

Any advice gratefully received,i am off to work the night shift now,and we will be going back in the morning to continue the fitting,so i shall check the forum then.

Is the height of the dishwasher not adjustable? I fitted an integrated dishwasher last year and this had adjustable legs, meaning that it didn't matter what height the worktops were, as the washer itself could be adjusted.

I can't remember what the clearance should have been, but I would also think that the fitting instructions would tell you this.

Hope this helps (and doesn't sound too patronising)

    No problem.

The dishwasher is slightly adjustable,it's just the units are a lot more adjustable,so it looks anyway?

  • I would set the height of the worktop based on the height of the kickboard/plinth you are using. Find the high-spot on the floor (there usually will be one) and measure at that point. Add the height of the plinth to the height of the units and then allow for a small gap between plinth and underside of unit (say 5mm) and that will give you the height to adjust the units to. The integrated dishwasher should be adjustable and you would usually adjust it so that the top is the same height as the units (i.e. so that it is flush to the underside of the worktop). As for your door dilemma, it will look odd if the door panel on the front of the dishwasher is not the same height as the unit doors. Usually there will be four clips that screw to the back of the panel which slot into holes on the front of the dishwasher. You need to calculate where to fix these clips so that the door panel is aligned with the door line of the neighbouring units. Hope that helps.
