what is a normal usage?

Options
I cant find this anywhere, but what is the normal sort of usage of gas and electric units per day? I've only just paid attention to mine, and wondering if its normal!

3 bed house, only 2 of us here, energy saver bulbs only, quite a few comp/tiv entertainment bits running, electric cooker, heating is just one tiny gas fire (which we dont use apart from in the depths of winter) nothing else. When I looked, we've gone from 30 units a day when we first moved in down to 10. Is 10 a reasonable amount?

thanks in advance, hope this doesnt sound too dumb!

    Sparkle, you worry too much.

Normal usage is what's normal for you. As long as you can pay your bill, don't worry about it.

Any 'average' has so many variables its pointless. Ofgem quote low, standard and high users, take 'em with a pinch of salt.

The UK average is 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity p.a.

However that presumably covers the range from Studio apartment to a mansion.

From the posts on here many people with gas CH seem to use more than 3,300kWh electricity. That consumption of course is not largely dependant on the size of your house.

We use 6000 gas 1500 elec. Perhaps that would make our average look more reasonable.

There are some official figures here: http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file50672.pdf

Though they are 2007 figures, I doubt it will have changed a great deal.

To cut through the chase: the average appears to be something like 17000kWh of gas and 3300kWh of electricity. Obviously not everyone has gas, and an all-electric household (ie one that uses electricity for heating) could have much higher electricity figures.

Average household size is something like 2.4 people, so that should give some kind of indication of where you stand compared to the average. Clearly more people means a bigger house to heat/more hot water for washing.

Also the report above breaks it down by region, so you can see that more gas tends to be needed to heat a Scottish house compared to one in the SW of England.

Just making the point that averages are pretty pointless, sorry no swap, unless a house swap goes with it.
