Lesson Learn't - EON Customers Leaving

I have recently decided to change suppliers from EON to another supplier and had a sting in the tail
Despite always paying by DD ( including being in credit at the time of leaving after paying off a debit balance caused by their low initial charges ) , managing the account on-line and having dual fuel I received my final bill which had none of the 15% discounts for the above
This is in the terms and conditions small print so they are within their rights but hardly an act of a company who wanted to keep my custom and even ask whethe I would consider them in the future
Lessons Learn't
Read every bit of the small print. If I had read the small print I would probably have still had the supply but would have managed its closure differently
Given meter readings on the date I signed up to new company and had an interim bill ( at least some discounts would have been saved)
Given another meter reading the day before the final meter reading

Its great for a company to offer these discounts but as you have realised.
on the final bill they dont want anything to do with you so you will pay full priceHis Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0 -
Don't feel too bad about missing this, OP. Even the woman I spoke to in Eon's CS centre had never heard of this sneaky T&C - she had to go and speak to her manager after I insisted it DID exist!! It's certainly not mentioned on the MSE-recommended switching site energyhelpline, either. This is the sort of T&C that would be outlawed by a 'proper' regulator, I feel. Exit fees are bad enough but at least they have an end date - Eon's 'exit fee' is paid by EVERY customer having the temerity to leave, even if they have been with the company for 20+ years. Scandalous, TBH.
PS Maybe Ofgem should insist on seeing just how much extra revenue this T&C brings in for Eon every year and then decide on its suitability?Call me Carmine....

Quite agree mate, it a pity other energy providers are jumping on the exit penalty fee bandwagon too.0 -
Perhaps BBC working lunch ought to highlight this. Only other day they ran a report of the confusing utility bills, added that with exit fees many of us aren't aware of it makes you wonder what other sneaky ways companies are trying to extract money from you0

I have to say that I didn't know about this until 1carminestocky posted it in other threads over the last 6 months or so.
It seems they're all at it.
nPower - Screwed customers by effectively changing what constitutes a year with their sculpting.
SP - Are attempting to lock customers into a new rate with a leaving penalty if they don't attempt to change tariffs after the Aug 31st fixed rate ended.
Eon - Don't give the discounts on the final bill.
and the list goes on...0 -
