Absolutely, the banks will be preparing for the worst/ inevitable. I would go as far to say as some have already jumped ship in a hope to appease any assessment the O.F.T. make - HBOS and RBS being recent examples. In fact (I may be wrong), was it not RBS that announced/ leaked a year or so ago that it set aside an amount (in the millions) as a contingency in case repayment of charges was required?Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
The problem as I said before is that price is not the issue but the terms that trigger the charges and potentially the interplay of charges. Remember, while business accounts are not part of the OFT test case, the cost remains the same as it was before the OFT test case began which means that the terms themselves are under scrutiny.Absolutely, the banks will be preparing for the worst/ inevitable. My credit expert card payment went out taking me £2ish over drawn so i transferred some money in the same day. I then get a letter saying halifax will charge £20 for honouring the payment, and £28 for going over the overdraft. This is a student account with a £400 interest free overdraft which I am paying off. I use RBS for my main banking. I have been with halifax for years and only ever incurred one charge which was a similar thing last year which was refunded. Due to the refund last year they will not do it again.
So i wil be charged nearly £50 for being £2 overdrawn for 2 hours. Apparently even though i transferred the money on the 1st as it says on my statement, it didn't actually clear until the 2nd??! Plus my card is not cheque guarantee so the payment should have been declined???
They told me that companies will take the money even if it is not available and the bank cannot stop this! I am so annoyed!0
