I am totally fedu p with this rotten system they have in place for benefits and tax credits.
I was made redundat in april 07 and then found out I was pregnant in the July, when I got made redundant I held off for as long as I could before claiming benefits by temping untill I was 7 months pregnant (luckly my agency/ and the clients liked me ) I then claimed benefits, had my baby and was hoping to find a job and be back at work january of this year when baby was around 9 months, however recession came along and it have been proving VERY tricky for me to find a job with suitable hours, anyhoo over the last few weeks my luck has been in and I have had a few offers for part time work, the wage is not ideal, but anything to just get me back into the working environment and build my confidence. I called up my lone parent advisor explaining about the job and them being under 16 hours per week, and she told me I am actually better off on benefits as I will not get any help with childcare.
It really annoys me that I am happy to go back to work even if only 2 hours a day, and come off as many benefits as I can, as I would obviously still need housing benefit as the wage will not be able to cover rent, but I do not get why they can not help with the childcare?

You may not get help with childcare as I suspect the JCP don't see you as having full time employment, I think they would end up paying out way more on childminders for 2 hours work per day than they actually do paying you benefits.

but if I was earning minimum wage working 16 hours (you dont have to be in full time employment to receive WTC) that would equate to the same money as if i was working for the 2 hours per day, also if I was working 16 hours the childcare fees would be more as it would come out of the half day session at the nursery to a full day as I would have to add on 1 hour before the job starts to get into work and then another hour for after work to collect baby
I hope I am making sense ?:o0 -

I doubt it as they only wanted lunch cover, the lady at the agency said she will see what she can do, but I wont hold my breath. It really is frustrating as I really want to get back out there and work, but i just seem to have this constant black cloud of bad luck following me0
