Please can someone help me!
On my credit card there appeared a £300 transaction which i did not recognise. I rang up the company and they told me it was a cash withdrawal. I did not make it. After numerous telephone calls and letters the company investigated the transaction and said that tey could not do anything about it. What can I do now?

Why can't they do anything about it?
Report it to the police, and go back to your credit card company and tell them again you did not do it.
If they do not remove the transaction, contact the financial ombudsman.0 -
Hi Sharpy,
Many thanks for your response.
Where can i get the Financial Ombudsman contact details from?
Also will it matter that it is nearly a year ago since the fraudulent transaction took place.0 -
you need to make a complain with the card issuer before you can go to the ombudsman anyway, they will be able to provide you with contact details.
Report it to the police, then go back to your card issuer and ask to make an official complaint.Kavanne

If it happened a year ago, why on earth didn't you report it then? I don't think you've got any chance of getting the money back now, because of leaving it a year to report it.
If it was a cash withdrawal that you did not make, someone obviously knows your pin number and had/has access to your card, or have cloned your card.... in either case, it is best you cancel the card immediately and have a replacement sent.
Acting upon the fraudulent transaction, 1 year later wont exactly help your case. Most companies T&C's state you must report any fraudulent transactions immediately otherwise you may be held liable. We’ve had to remove your signature. Hi Elky Elky,
I did report the fraud straight away as soon as I noticed it on my statement but it has taken them nearly a year to come back to me with their conclusion.
I have tried to explain to them that i think someone must have intercepted my card because it was coincidentally at the time when they should have been sending me out a new card as my old one had expired.
I am now left with £300 on my card that i am paying off which i have not spent. I dont know what the next step should be for my complaint?0 -

Oh right, my mistake. A year is a really long time to be investigating it.
The thing is, because your pin was used to withdraw the cash, credit card companies generally find the account holder liable because they see you as being negligent by revealing your pin. There has been many messages on this forum, of users having to repay fraudulent transactions because the pin was used, which is unfortunate.
Personally, I'd be contacting the Police but I wouldn't get my hopes up because you should have really done that on the very day you noticed the transaction. I can't see the Financial Ombudsman doing anything about it, but there is absolutely no harm in contacting them either.
Someone should be along shortly to help you, who has a little more knowledge on this subject. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
1. DON'T pay the company anything.
2. They have to prove that it was you that authorised that transaction - not the other way round.
3. Tell them they are in breach of The Banking Code, which they subscribe to.
4. Complain to the Financial Ombudsman.
5. Why should you report it to the police ? It was the bank's money that someone stole, NOT yours !0
