I have found 2 older PC games/software - it states Windows 95/98 on the boxes - and wondered if they would work on Windows XP?
They are 'Championsip Chess' and 'Crosswords & More' by Expert Software [can find no reference for them online]
Thanks in advance
regards

They should work fine on XP - however, if they don't you can do the following:
1. Install the software as normal
2. Right click on the icon that launches the program
3. Click on properties
4. Go to the compatibility tab at the top
5. Change the setting in here to run in compatibility mode for either 95 or 98
6. You may also want to change it to 256 colours as this sometimes helps!
Good luck!Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0 -
I have tried playing older games on windows XP using the Build in Mocrosoft Function that reverts the program useable for XP.
No success though, still didn't work.
This is taken from the Help section:Help_&_Support wrote:Getting older programs to run on Windows XPMost programs run properly on Windows XP. The exceptions are some older games and other programs that were written specifically for an earlier version of Windows. To run your program on Windows XP, try the following:
Run the Program Compatibility Wizard. As an alternative, you can set the compatibility properties manually.
Update your program, drivers, or hardware.
These options are covered in detail below.
The Program Compatibility Wizard
This wizard prompts you to test your program in different modes (environments) and with various settings. For example, if the program was originally designed to run on Windows 95, set the compatibility mode to Windows 95 and try running your program again. If successful, the program will start in that mode each time. The wizard also allows you to try different settings, such as switching the display to 256 colors and the screen resolution to 640 x 480 pixels.
If compatibility problems prevent you from installing a program on Windows XP, run the Program Compatibility Wizard on the setup file for the program. The file may be called Setup.exe or something similar, and is probably located on the Installation disc for the program.
To run the Program Compatibility Wizard
Start the Program Compatibility Wizard.
Follow the instructions in the wizard.0 -
Thanks for the replies - the boxes are still sealed [shrinkwrapped] so I haven't/didn't want to open and install to find out as I'll try and flog them on.
Thanks again
cheers
