thanks pink winged - It may be a good idea to move it over as I have had some good advice here but you can never get too much :-)

Ok, I'll move it over now......give it a couple of days though, because not everyone is online at the weekend. I hope you get it sorted.

Silly question perhaps but have you looked at the fuse in the plug?

Both my parents have condemned appliances without checking this in the past, only to find that's where the problem lies.

Also, try it in another socket, one that you know to be working.

Our dishwasher has worked perfectly, without a problem (hope I haven't tempted fate saying that:rolleyes: ) for 10 years. It's a Neff............so I can recommend that brand to you.

ha ha ha - yes the plug works but I will admit that I thought there was a power cut for 2 hours untill I phoned the helpline and they told me there was no power cut and had I checked my main fuses :rotfl: I then realised that someting had tripped it :rotfl: My Dad has checked it and he thinks some moisture has got into the workings of it somewhere but it is sealed inside so would be a call out engineer job I am afraid - apparently it isnt tripping out the main fuse its is the RDC ( or something like that )

We had a hotpoint for over ten years, it's still working in a friend's kitchen, it was used most days. We replaced it with a Bosch built-in model and if that doesn't last as long I will be disappointed.

We used a local repair shop that will refund the call-out if you decide not to repair and buy the replacement through them.

Turned out I've needed a new element twice in 13 years.

My dishwasher runs 2 - 3 times a day every day. I had it for 5 years and it died. I whinged to my godmother who used to be a Rep for an electrical company who told me the poor thing didn't owe me anything. It was £200. I was very lucky. One of my best mates can fix just about anything, it turned out the heating element had packed in and it was a £20 part and he fixed it for a bottle of wine.
My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

Touch Wood... Our dishwasher, a Hotpoint is 11 years old, has never had any servicing at all as is still going strong.
I re-call reading the Which? report on dishwashers just after we'd bought ours and they didn't rate our model for reliability, etc. But I can't complain at all, ours owes us nothing.

Steady now - recommending current appliances on the glories of those which are 10 years old does not make much sense. They will not be the same, and there is no logic in thinking that they will be as good. The only thing that impresses me is that Miele 10-year guarantee, but even then you have to read its terms very carefully or you might find it is nothing but hot air.

OP: I do wonder why you need to run the dishwasher every single day. Perhaps you have a big family, but if you just run it on principle even when it's not full, then you'll do good all round by trying to make sure it's full each time. I suppose the danger is that you'll run out of crockery.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

    Right - I see now

It's tripping the RCD (Residual Currnt Device) This trips if there is earth leakage. I suspect you have a live component inside the machine touching the casing, which is in turn earthed.

It would not take a lot for the right person to find the fault, or indeed eliminate the cable or the plug. A common cause in my experience is a badly wired or shorted plug. I would check your plug again for stray wires between either the live or neutral to the earth.
