Pre-ordering goods

I pre-ordered windows7 from Currys back in July for £45. Since then, I have moved which means that the billing address given with the order has changed - so I believe that payment will be attempted but will fail, possibly leading to a cancelled order.
An email to currys CS gave the reply: there's nothing we can do to update the billing details, you can cancel your order and reorder it.
If I did that, I would have to pay £70... ha ha not likely.
I rang the CS phone number, and they told me the same thing. They also told me that should the payment fail, they would contact me to arrange payment, and that my order will not be automatically cancelled.

I am a bit wary of this (as I don't have this statement in writing), so was wondering if anyone else has been in this kind of situation?

Did you pre-order in store, or via the web?

Darn, then I can only suggest you let the payment fail and then contact them to rearrange when it does.

  • Yes, I thought this would be the case. Of course, I wont know when the payment fails, and will have to pray to all the Gods that it will flag something to let Currys inform me, rather than automatically cancel the order. I will also try to contact them on the release date of win7, just in case.

(fwiw, I have accidentally ordered stuff from Ebuyer using an out-of-date card, and they kept my order and gave me a couple of days to produce valid payment. I'm sure Currys will work to the same principles)

    Cheers esqui.

I think, from using other sites, that you'd get a notification of payment failure - after all, the last thing they want is to lose your custom because of a payment error!

I don't think the Currys website would be any different
