Help needed: Is this legal?

Hi All,

I purchased a Digital Camera from bigpockets.co.uk yesterday. It was a pretty good deal 6 Megapixel for £8. The transaction went through and the money was taken from my card.

Then I had this email…

Dear Ben,

Thank you for placing a recent order with Big Pockets. One of the items that you placed on the order was for a Soyntec Sxlim 670 6.mp LCD TFT colour Monitor 4x / 16mb SD/M. The price of this item at the time of placing your order was displayed as being £8.02. As you may be aware from the low price of this item this was not the correct price. The correct price of this item is £74.44. This error was caused by a computer failure in transferring the information directly from our suppliers.

Under the sale of goods act, if an item has been advertised incorrectly and the difference in price is not within a reasonable difference to what it should be, then the trader can cancel the order. In light of the situation caused due to this error, your order has been cancelled and any amount that you may have paid has been requested to be refunded back into your account.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may of caused and I hope it does not deter you from ordering us from us in the future.

Is this true I thought once the transaction had gone through it was a legally binding contract. It’s not as if I just paid £8 for a £1000 LCD TV or Computer and it looks like this is their cost price any way. As you can tell as I only ordered one I wasn’t trying to rip them off just getting my self a camera at a good price.

What if anything can I do next?

    Perfectly legal.

You can wait to get your money back. (or more accurately your credit)
