BT Connection Charge when moving house

HI,

Need advise....

I've just moved house and spoke to BT about taking my account with me.. They assured me very straight forward. (Great I thought!)

However..... They say I don't have a landline at my new house.. I disagree as the socket is on wall , i can plug a phone in and call out and hold a conversation (with bt lol)

They instead there is not line of any description attached to the house and insist I have to pay £122.50 poss £195.00 to get line in and working. They insist I need to allow an engineer access to my house to fit a socket! (Why? - i have one)

When I call BT i keep getting passed through numberous departments and end up getting no definate answer. Except Line is not in and needs setting up.
To top it off I had a text from BT saying you line is install and your new number is ............(obviously not going to publish it on here lol)
But there are still insisting its not set up and I have to pay.

Please help, its driving me crazy!

Have you told BT then number of the line you're calling them from? Dial 17070 if you don't know it. They will then be able to trace it if it's one of their lines.

In any case, although BT's standard installation charge is £122.50, at the moment (at least until the end of December - although the official BT Price List Notice 06/09 which gives the details hasn't been amended yet), they have a free installation offer on if you agree to a 18 month contract and to making at least 10 chargeable or inclusive calls per month.

If you can comply with those requirements, ask for the free installation offer (they are not allowed to offer it to you, you have to ask) but, if you still get baulked, ask for the Customer Options Team and then ask again. Eventually, you will reach someone who knows about the offer.

, please will you arrange, as you did last time it was extended, for the end date on the third line of the BT Price List Notice 06/09 'Calling Plans - Line Connection Special Offer' to be updated.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

The number displays as unknown so don't know it but will try that 17070 thing.

Why don't they tell you about free connection.. or is it basically they are out to scam everyone.

I just find the whole process extremely tiring and complicated.

Thanks for your advice heinz, it is appreciated.

BT have been intouch and insist I have to pay the £122.50 connection charge. And I can't use the free line connection offer. My house is a new build (1 yr old) so they so that the free line connection is not applicable! Are they correct? I feel like i'm be taken for a ride.

More BS from BT. Where in Notice 06/09 does it exclude new builds?

    Try 0800 100 444.

Makes you think they must have developed a special 'hold' button - it's called the 'can't be arsed button' specifically to get rid of those "troublesome customers who actually want me to do something."

I had this problem!!!They wouldn't give me the free installation so I ended up with Talk Talk (yes I can hear the groans) but connection was only £50-£60. Better than £122. Was A BT engineer that switched us on aswell!!

And apart from the occasional !!!! calling to sell me a phone line (from TT and asking for the wrong person, there not there, start abuse from TT) weve had no problems
