Thanks again for you questions regarding Magic's Mystery Mix Up. Magic takes all comments and questions about our competitions and promotions very seriously, as we spend a lot of time and consideration ensuring they are fair and meet our high standard of regulations and guidelines. I have taken your four central themes in order:



1. " That the randomness of selection is in question: (b) the apparent coincidence of many entrants being redrawn, one of which was drawn three times in a matter of a couple of days indicating that the drawing of names may not be random from the full pool of entrants. "


All names drawn are logged in a database and I can confirm that although there have been repeat names drawn that they in no way illustrate a pattern or a process that could be defined as anything other than random and that the methodology used to generate the selection is widely accepted as robust.



2. " That there has been intervention to improve the randomness: (Bizzarely there doesn't appear to have been any today but not sure if this is because of your intervention or just a very odd coincidence!!!!) "


As the number of entries has increased as the competition has been running so the likelihood of multiple draws decreases. Within this point there is the suggestion of 'intervention'. In no way has there been any alteration to the system or methodology of the draw, and all code related to the application is held within a repository which tracks any changes, should there be any question of this.



3. " The amount of money to be given away is less than stipulated. (a) the amount of money involved in the campaign as flagged up in my later mails) "


You are correct in your calculations (based on the the current T&C's ) that at the rate of £10 every 20 mins between 7am and 6pm , only £9900 would be given away between the beginning of the competition (28/9) and the stated end (6/11) .
We originally planned on playing the online promotion 24 hours a day, but we changed this to 11 hours a day in line with the onair "Magic Myster Voices" mechanic. However we are extending the play of the promotion until the full stated amount of £21,600 is given away. Because we are promoting the names and the amounts won, you will be obviously be able to monitor the total jackpot being given away.

The competition terms and conditions for Radio and Online state under point 7 of 'Important Terms ' "Bauer reserves the right to amend or vary the Competition Rules at any time prior to the commencement of the relevant Competition. We may also amend or vary the Competition Rules during the course of the Competition in order to address any practical or technical difficulties or to comply with any legal requirements."

As such, we reserve the right to extend the game as required or change the jackpot totals in order to increase participation as we see fit, and there is no question that we will be giving away less than the total amount stated.




Whilst I would accept that this might be confusing, it is in no way meant to obscure the stated jackpot give away of £21,600 and as such we have been transparent with the winners to date as posted on the site with amounts won.

Any more recent duplicates have also been checked and our agency assure us that it is mere coincidence. I trust this answers your questions and should you still not be satisfied I would be happy to discuss the matter further with the ISP

So we'll all get plenty more opportunity to hopefully win big on this competition as effectively the prize period will have to double to some time in mid-late December. How do you feel now Laney85 - still sore that I raised my issues with them to try to get resolution to what seemed 'out of the norm' or happier that you have more opportunity to win?

Well done Simon in getting a response. Most of the queries seem to have been answered clearly, but I must admit I'm still struggling with the randomness

I guess we just have to take their word for it.

Cheers for the message and I do agree that I struggle with the randomness but will be keeping a close eye (although I'm probably barred from winning anything myself now!!!!) on how this pans out. I did flag the 3 random duplicates today too which is what the MD of Magic alluded to in his e-mail back to me but it has gone to their highest level and am guessing they were spending a while figuring what to do to get the £21,600 pledged distributed - hence why they've now extended the competition. OP - once revised T&C's are published could you amend the end date in line with them - cheers :-)
