Following Martin's advice in May this year both my wife and myself applied and obtained a Barclaycard Goldfish credit card in order to take advantage of the offer at the time of 5250 bonus points worth £30 if there was a minimum spend on the cards of £300 over 3 months from the date of opening the account.

In the first month I spent about £110. Second month about £95 and third month £130 so the total spend over the three months was well over £300

When I tried to claim my bonus points I was told that I wasn't eligible because I had not spent £100 or more each individual month. I pointed out that I had an email from them stating that I just had to spend £300 or more over the three months. They told me to hang on whilst they went to check with someone then when the person came back she said that I was quite right and I would get my bonus points right away. I hung up the phone and checked my account on line. Sure enough the point were there so I quickly cashed them in for M & S vouchers before they could change their mind.

The same thing has now happened with my wife's account. Her spending pattern was similar to mine but overall she spent over £300 in the three month period although it wasn't £100 or more in each individual month. When I initiated the same procedure to get her bonus points I hit a brick wall. They won't budge and only respond to my emails when I threaten to write to this forum. The trouble is I have to do it all by email in this case because my wife isn't a belligerent person like me and she won't contact them by phone. I know there is no point in me ringing them because the will ask to speak to the card holder.

So, that's how it stands at the moment. The latest email from Barclaycard is to say that they have now passed on my complaint to a higher department and that they will write to me or telephone within 7 days so I will keep you informed. I hope that they don't telephone because my wife will not speak to them. Isn't this just typical of banks?

Welcome to the *Credit Cards* board.

If memory serves, another Barclaycard Goldfish customer reported something similar last month. B'card seems to have moved the goalposts

If your wife answers the phone and passes some security checks (eg. date of birth, mother's maiden name etc), then assures staff she is happy for you to take over, you could then intervene on her behalf ;)

    Please keep us posted.

    Very best

Looks like Barclaycard need to pressured into paying the funds that they have agreed to.
