Retiling the roof etc.

Hello!

My websearching skills aren't much up to scratch and as a result I'd like to pose a few questions to the best web forum in the world.

Retiling a roof (two-bed terraced, average sized house) - anyone know how much this might cost?

Re-pointing a house - how much does this usually cost and what does it involve?

Replacing guttering - how much does this usually cost?

Damp-proofing - how much?

I know this is more DIY stuff but I'm researching the costs of doing-up my mum's old house with a view to flogging it. It's in Newcastle, if that makes any difference.

Can anyone out there who's perhaps paid for this sorta work give me a rough guesstimate?

Thank-you

You might do better asking in the DIY board or somewhere like http://www.trustedtradesmen.com/forum/default.asp

Very roughly (cos I don't do it) - re-roof probably into 4 figures. I really don't know on that one.
Re-pointing involves the raking out of the mortar between the bricks and replacing the mortar, it is a labour intensive job.
Replacing guttering - not much extra over the re-roof as it will be easy to do it at the same time.
As you need scaffolding up to do this, it would be advisable to get it all done at the same time.
Damp proof - several hundred but is arguable as to whether you need it. A lot of thinking that damp proofing is needed is misguided. A lot of the people who come round to sell it you will find damp.
    A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.
