VAT Receipts at garages

Why is that garages do not automatically give you a VAT receipt, they give you a standard receipt.
When I ask for a VAT receipt, then they print the same receipt with their VAT number,
What are they are up to, there must be a benefit to them so why do they not print their vat number first time,

I can see your point on this - I guess alot of the time the customer doesnt require a VAT number.
Personally I dont see why they dont just put the VAT number on their receipts anyway! But maybe its something to do with them having to pay less if they dont give the VAT number?!
The people that want a VAT number must be wanting to claim the VAT back so maybe the garages have been told by the HMRC not to give the VAT numbers out so they dont have to pay out much VAT?Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
if I go to sainsburys and buy a pack of crisps for 25p, they will issue a reciept, so why not in the station?0

It's also a speed thing. Petrol stations like to get you through the tills ASAP and the extra 5 seconds to print a receipt really adds up when you are serving over a 1000 customers a day. Also reduces the time the tills are down because you have to change the till roll because you are using more of it.
So people do yourself a favour and everyone else in the queue. If you need a VAT receipt ask for one because the sales assistants aren't psychic and are just going to think you are a halfwit if you are standing there at the end of the transaction waiting for something you're never going to get without asking. Oh and they won't know which pump you are using either as there are 4 silver cars on the forecourt and the ice cubes are kept in the freezer. Not that I'm bitter or anything...0 -
Explain this one:
Buy petrol at Sainsburys and pay by credit card - get one (normal) credit card receipt.
Ask for a VAT receipt - and get 2 extra pieces of paper.
1. VAT receipt (as requested)
2. Receipt with petrol info on (again) + nectar card points
I guess Sainsburys don't care about the environment0 -
Yes, fill your car up with £50 worth of petrol and then complain that three square inches of paper is damaging the environment :rolleyes:Can I help?0

If i wear a tie, I get asked if I want a VAT receipt, if not, they dont ask!My views are irrelevant - censorship is alive & well!0
