Natwest are punishing me...Help

I was talked into opening a natwest gold account along side my step account ages ago.... I have never placed any money into the account and never used any of the services the account offers. I have recieved bank statements but never opened them (stupid i know) but never using it i didnt bother... Finally when i did open one i saw that i was £362.00 overdrawn... ringing the bank and asking them why.. They said that it was made up of bank charges and that i have to pay it back. They said that if i could make a one off payment of half on the day they could quash the rest. At the time i was out of work and was unable to do this, i asked if they could freeze the account until i started back to work, they said no until the arrears were paid off, so it left with no alternative but to accumilate more charges. Now i have started back to work i am now £510.00 overdrawn. They have forced me now to set up a standing order from my step account to pay £100.00 a month until the ammount is paid off, if not they would close all of my accounts. Are they able to make me pay these charges......... Please is there any thing i can do:confused:

  • The £ 100.00 a month is over 6 months to cover the extra charges from now till then..
  • Natwest Advantage Gold is a fee paying account costing £12.95 per month.

This will be where the overdraft and charges comes from.

If this was not made crystal clear to you, as obviously it was not, then you should complain to the bank on that basis as the account was missold to you and ask them to wipe any debt built up on that account and to close the account.

I would also stop paying the £100 per month. If natwest won't play ball and process your complaint and resolve the dispute within 8 weeks then you can take it to the finanical ombudsman.
