Hi, has anyone used the basics lasagne sheets from Tesco & Sainsburys - are they just as good as branded ones?

have used both and no problem with them but would reccomend the tescos one0

I soak them in some boiling water (& olive oil) when I am cooking the remainder of the dish. They say you don't need to pre-cook, but; I think they come out better if they are a bit softer first.0

I have used the Sainsburys ones yesterday and must say it is the first Basics item that I haven't been to keen on. Just felt they were a bit rubbery. Maybe I will try soaking them next time.0

I've never done this before but will give it a go this evening, I am not keen on hard pasta sheets!
I got some Tesco value ones last night and compared them to the Tesco ones I'd previously had and they look identical and all the info on the pack is identical..
Looks like Tesco is the preferred one here over Sainsbury's!
I also love Tesco value chocolate and regular digestive biscuits - yum! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I can confirm Tesco Value ones tastes just the same as the previous ones I have purchased.
Took your advice and boiled them first however didn't do it too well! I put them in the pan for 10 mins with water and left them, when I took them out they were stuck together and there were bits in the middle which were still tough and hadn't been boiled! I will need to work on this! Should I stir them when in water?
Have never made cheese sauce, always buy it in jar..This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hello Summer, Oh dear - that does happen, I add a bit of olive oil to the water & don't actually boil them but leave them in boiled water while the rest cooks. Hope that helps.
Cheese sauce - a table spoon flour, a tablespoon of butter, 1/2 pint milk - all to the pan together and whisk like mad. (Don't leave it). It thickens as it cooks - grate up some cheese (add a teaspoon of mustard powder if you like) voila!!
It makes a basic white sauce that you can them make into cheese/parsley whatever sauce you like. You prob won't need salt as the cheese contains salt (maybe your butter has salt in it too) but a good dash of pepper is always good.0
