I have worked in a number of compaines where no two people earned the same amount, i know for a fact i earn't about 8k a year more than a guy doing the same job employed the same day...... but they wanted me so agreed to pay me the extra, they offered him the wage and was happy to accept it without neogation....... person A didn't try hard enough or was happy to accept the offer because they were unemployed..... go to you employer and ask for a pay rise..... and if they say no go and look for another job paying the extra.....

As companies have been ordered by courts to pay damages to people who are sacked as a direct result of refusing to take a pay cut then wouldn't your company be taking a risk in the same happening here?

Not sure as a dismissal for those reasons never happened whilst I was there, It was one of the golden rules of that organisation. And treated in the same way as an act of theft or violence.
