Computer just wont load

Options
Hi all,

Right, yesterday I popped out for 20mins, left the computer on come back and the screen was frozen, couldnt do anything with it so turned the comp off. After that when I tried turning my comp on it just wouldnt load and the monitor said no signal. Eventually somehow it worked and loaded, when it got to the desktop it said "windows has recovered from a serious error", thought ok thats that sorted.

Turned it on today, loaded ok but then screen froze after about 50 seconds and that was that. Have tried loading it since and either get nothing at all, a frozen screen when the windows sign comes up or just error messages saying stuff like "bios rom checksum error" or "checksum error, ps/2 mouse error or no ps/ mouse found". Anyone have any ideas please? It is old so might just be dead I suppose.

Thank you!

If it is old it might need a new CMOS battery. Or else the hard drive is on the way out.

  • Cheapest option as per Stan is to get a new cmos battery, if you open the case and have another look , its simple to change and only a couple of quid from Maplins etc...
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
