some advice please

Hello just wanted to know if anyone can give me a little advice :)

I have one cc in my name for about £2500 and i want to see if i can get it onto a 0% card. I tried to apply about 6mths ago for a new card (egg) and was refused :( so i didnt want to also apply for some more (my dh has also applied for one from mbna and has been rejected)
So i got my credit report and it showed i had more credit available to me which was a comet card for £1800 so i have now cancelled that as there was nothing on there....could this have been a reason as i had to much credit availble to me?? the only other bad thing was i had one late payment in the last yr which was within a mth late (the no1 mark...)

I dont work but have joint income from my dh so am able to make payments etc but i just want a 0% so i can pay it of quicker....

Anyway some of the questions i have are:
What is more likely to have been the problem the extra credit availble or the one late payment or both....
How long will it take for the card i cancelled to come of my credit report?
What shall i do to improve my credit rating so i might be able to get a 0%??
Are there any cards which are a bit more suited for my circumstances?? (No income myself but from my husband?? I guess some must give credit as i have a abbey cc....)

anyway sorry for all the rambles :o and thanks if you got this far...

Are you definitely on the Electoral Role at your current residence ?

This is the first crucial step to getting a decent line of credit.

A combination of lots of things:

    Not in full/part time employment
    No/little income
    Late payment
Too much available credit (although reducing it will increased your used to available figure, so a double edged sword)
Husbands debt (if you have a financial association)

In short, you're simply below the 'score' required.
How long will it take for the card i cancelled to come of my credit report?
Anywhere from one to three months in my experience.
What shall i do to improve my credit rating so i might be able to get a 0%??
To be blunt, the best thing you could do would be to get yourself a job/income.

M&S &more card in-store application forms only ask for total household income. You will, however, have to declare you're not in paid employment, ie a 'home-maker'. 0% for only 6 months on BTs (2% fee applies), but there's a way to grab a psuedo BT for 10 months 0% for only a 1% fee. Post back when/if you get accepted for more details.
  • thanks for your replys.
I am on the electoral register. When i applied for the egg card i hadnt lived at the same address for over the 3 yrs but now i have... so might help a little

Dh does have car loan, another loan and a cc aswell so i guess it doesnt help, but no late payments and has been over min payments on the ccs for a while....(my late payment was a silly mistake with me cancelling the dd!! then phoned and paid a few days late...)

I know this would help but its not going to happen in a while (dd3 is 5mths old and i am pregnant with no4 so not up for doing a night shift at the moe, which is what it would have to be to fit in with dh and childcare...maybe in a yr...) We are fine with the payments of the debt and it will be cleared but i just wanted to ask for some advice about a 0% deal to make it a little quicker :) i do have some income but its not going to be enough to make a difference (mystery shopping and delivery of phone books/yellow pages, also I do surveys ebay etc but they dont count)

I guess i should just give one ago as its been 6mths now so might get a different answer :D fingers crossed. will try the m&s one if it asks for household income.... cant lose anything...

    thanks again for reading

AFAIK, the only cc applications that ask for household income rather than salary are
    GE Money
    and Marks & Spencer.

By all means, give M&S a go. Its advertising/marketing seems to be aimed at ladies and, as you say, there's nothing to lose.

(I wouldn't waste further searches on other cards though. You need an annual income of at least £8000 for 0% BT cards and, even then, your choice would be severely limited.)

    Very best

  • thank you - i will try that and then leave it. I dont mind to much as i am putting everything to pay of this cc first so hope to have it clear before my next baby comes (if i can.....) but if i do get a 0% it will make it easier to have it paid of by then....
I have only applied for the egg one 6 mths ago and thats the only search on my account for a long time so im sure one more wont do to much harm.....also not due to renew mortage or anything for a few yrs so it wont matter for the next time i need a credit report done.....
