Good Housekeeping cook book

I endorse the view that you should look at a car boot sale or charity shop - I have over 300 cookbooks which have mostly been bought like this. The Good Housekeeping ones are OK - good basic food but there are more imaginative books out there.0

Ive got one from the 50's which has some very nice sweets and biscuits, pictures of drawing poultry(gutting),skinning and jointing rabbits(Ive had a go at that) and great oldy worldy adverts. The other is from 1970's that is rather boring in comparison.Ofcourse the older one doesn't have any 'exotic' fruit or veg recipes and no sign of Pasta or Pizza or other 'foreign food'.0

So did my mum! - I 'bought' it for her birthday when I was just 1 year old! I too remember looking at the pictures, and my brother and I used to love making the coconut ice and the fudge/butterscotch from it.
It has such strong memories for me that when I was in Hay on Wye a number of years ago it was the one book I looked for - and found and bought. Ah, memories!!Taking control, slowly.:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Don't forget Mrs Beaton and Elizabeth David! My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.
