I you get iplayer just with a normal freeview box.
Have you tried the website say no to 0870? They give alternative landline numbers and I regularly use it0 -
Hi,
Can anyone shed some light on the home phone confusion with Virgin Media. I am with Virgin talk unlimited and I live in an area where my mobile phone isn't in reception, so I am forced to use the home phone for everyting as I work part time from home. Currently I use 0871, 0844 etc for getting cheap calls to 0845, 0870 and mobile numbers. But then I see virgin charge more pence per minute for some of these numbers. My phone bills monthly are currently about £70 - £80... that is with internet included but my question is does anyone know.
1. The cheapest ways to phone mobile phones (weekdays and weekends) without being stung with the 0871 etc call charge per minute.
2. The cheapest ways to phone 0845 numbers, evening and weekends.
3. Any further tips about reducing this bill.
You could always go to VOIP. Someone like Vonage for £5.99 you get 01/02/03 numbers included and 0845 are 5p/3p/2p and 0870 2p/1p/1p (I suspect that they may be the wrong way around on their site). You would plug their adapter into your broadband.
Join via https://www.quidco.com and you will get £60 back. No need to use your Virgin line except for incoming calls.0 -
@ACDeag, thanks for mentioning Vonage - we really appreciate it!
@Bennash - if you have Virgin Media Cable broadband, this work perfectly fine with our Vonage service. If you want to know more, please get in touch with me on here and I'd be happy to help.

Surely the cheapest way to call 0871, 0844 and other such numbers on a Virgin Media lines is to subscribe to one of their Talk Anywhere packages? You get a certain number of minutes per month for a fixed fee and they can be used for just about any type of call from UK 07 and 08 numbers to international numbers. If you use all the minutes up, it costs roughly about 3.5p per minute.0

Plus there's VoIP out there with no monthly costs, just pay around 1p per minute for the calls you do make to UK landlines. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
