Lloyds PPI what do I do next?

I applied fro a loan in May, went into the branch, was told I could have the loan BUT only if I took out PPI. I argued with the loans manager stating I DID NOT want this but was told if I didnt I couldnt have the loan. I felt I had no choice. When I recieved the paperwork throught he post I read the bumph and it clearly said it was Optional!! I phoned and cancelled it immediatley. Then I wrote and complained. They have eventually written back and said I was "unaware"it was optional and that I had ELECTED to buy insurance! Implying as I hadnt been charged any insurance it was ok. I am now concidering taking it to the ombudsman, I feel I have lost my trust in Lloyds after 20 years (though looking at the threads on here I do feel a bit stupid for believing them in the past!).
Even though I never paid any insurance, Can I claim compensation for being blatantly lied to?
Many Thanks

Hi there.;)
You can complain to them about how unhappy you are with how you have been treated, and of course try to reclaim on the PPI you have paid up until you cancelled it.
They have 8 weeks and if they do not resolve by the final decision, you care of course entitled to complain to the FOS, the final decision should enclose details of the FOS, after giving them a chance to resolve this first.
So how far have you gone with this?
Have they issued you with the final decision, and/or given you the opportunity to write back with further information, for them to reconsider?
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0
