Tiers of Gas usage

Options
Hi there. My mum is with British Gas Click 3 online enerery tarrif. When I look up the tarrifs on the site it shows clearly that the first 670kwh are charged at one price,, and the remaining ones at another .

All her readings are actual and she pays by DD monthly. Sometimes the incoming bills are just for a months worth of gas, sometimes 80 days, sometimes 90 days and so on. It seems completely random Sometimes one bill will have 2 lots of blocks of dates on it each with a different first tier level.
What I dont understand is why every bill she seems to get seems to vary in the number of kwh she gets in the first tier . How can I compare properly whether Im being charged correctly when some bills say 'first 727 kwh@ ' , some 'first 308kwh @' and so on? It just doesnt seem fair. Why cant they just send me one bill every quarter with the first 670 charged at the advertised price and the remainder at the lower advertised rate ? I cant face waiting for half an hour on the phone waiting for British Gas to answer. Can anyone explain how I check please.

The 670 kWh per quarter is worked out daily (~7.36 kWh/day) so I assume the 727 was a 99 day bill and the 308 was a 42 day bill.

As to why she is getting bills more frequently than normal Ic ould only guess, but they are usually triggered by the arrival of reads - either from the meter reader or the customer.

The two blocks of dates will be over a price change - the first block at the old price up to the day of the change and the second block for the new price after.
  • Ah, so theyre not ripping us off then by arbitarily choosing to give us less cheap initial kwh sometimes than others . Thanks SwanJon . I just wish it was all a bit more straightforward to check up on .
