prisoner of Halifax

Has anyone had a similar experience to me in trying to move their ISA from the Halifax? I've been trying since February to move mine to a higher rate at the A&L, But they are obstructing me at every turn. I've sent in 2 transfer forms which they claim to have lost, they asked me to confirm my details but had the wrong N.I. number. They advised me to reset my security info and I did that, they then said I hadn't, so I went into a Branch and got the assistant to help me and was assured before I left the branch it had been reset. Next day I rang and been told it hadn't.

They are quite definitely playing games, with no doubt some financial reward/penalty involved somewhere. It costs a premium to ring them and having to hold on waiting to speak to managers who cut you off eventually, or promise to ring you back and never do. Do I have a case for compensation?
Are all Banks the same or is it just the Halifax you should avoid in future?

Applied to transfer 4 old ISA with Halifax on April 1st. Took 3 application forms from A&L to get it sorted. Finally arrived yesterday with A&L 11th May
About 6 weeks in all! One thing I discovered, when I posted one of the application forms, I sent it to an address in Halifax, (which was the address from where I got the ISA Statement earlier in the year). You'd think that Halifax in Halifax would talk to Halifax in Leeds, apparently not. Anyway, the Leeds address was where it should have gone, so check where you sent it if you can!

    A few tips.

Take your form into the branch and ask them to send it (at least that way you know they got it - note the time, date, branch and name of the person (on their badge).

Start keeping records - time, dates, locations, addresses and names (surnames if possible as lots of jons). This will all help when you come to make a complaint.

I have also sent off the Halifax transfer out form (rather than the A&L form).
I don't know whether this will work (as it's not A&L procedure) but I am trying everything so it might be worth a go.

Once it's all finished raise a formal complaint and ask for some compensation.
Your records will back up your case.
  • I am having similar problems. Halifax lost 2 forms (both handed in at a branch) and also lost my complaints letter! I have now sent them two emails which have been confirmed as received, asking for compensation for loss of interest. I have been trying to move my ISA since 11/04, so a month now.

I'll post if I am successful in my interest claim...

That doesn't work. I did precisely that. Within A&L Branch in town. When obviously Halifax had never received it on their system, I asked A&L to check their records. They don't keep records of things they have sent, they just post it, there was no way of double checking with them. Once it had vanished out of their office, God knows where it went.

    I meant Halifax.
I have taken mine to 2 differnt branches of Halifax and both have taken it.

I have sent off 4 forms altogether.
Will make interesting reading on the complaint :-)

Sorry if I have a quiet chortle! I'm not being unsympathetic but the number of complaints on this site about the Halifax and how they do business it amazes me anyone is still banking with them. It is not worth the small additional gains from those of their accounts that pay better rates compared with the aggro of sorting out their appalling business practices. If we all voted with our feet (or should I say our money) they might get the message but as long as they continue to attract customers why should they care? I have moved ALL my accounts from them and am in the process of moving my fathers for him too. Something about putting money and mouth together comes to mind.
    The Halifax suck!

Not only are Halifax's customer services poor, but their products are becoming uncompetitive which is why there are so many people switching out including myself.
