Buyer want to return item after trail period??!!

I have sold a new camera on Amazon recently (£170), seller contacted me after 6 days. I state in my posting note that buyers should contact me within 7 days if they have a problem. After a series of e-mails these are the details:-

1. I have tried to e-mail you 3 times and you haven't responded. Hmmm this is the first mailI have received

2. The item was not clean ? Hmm yes it was; it was brand new... but why did you not contact me to return immediately if not happy?

3. The item is only 4 mega pixels and does not suit my needs ...I need 5 mega pixels. Hmmm not a huge difference and I can blow 2 megs upto A4 size no problem.

4. I wish to return it after my 7 day trial period. Arghhh ...trial period so now you want to send back a perfectly good camera after playing with it for a week!

5. I have bought a 5 mega pixel camera and don't need yours now.

That is the jist of the e-mail exchanges I have had with my buyer; I haven't replied for over a day now, mainly because I think I will explode.

I know that as far as distance selling regulations are concerned I should take the camera back but to be honest I am not really in the mood for this one. Said buyer is really taking the mick as far as I am concerned.

I am contimplating telling them they can return but I will take a restocking fee of between 25%-33%. I do not see why I should take the hit on this I will have to resell as a used camera with the obvious drop in value which I doubt would be covered by a restocking fee.

Mad and very hacked off...any views on this one? Bear in mind its Amazon and not EBay.

While I can understand your frustration, IF the email thing is true (and we all know that emails can be misplaced by anti-spam software) they obviously tried to contact you well before the 7 days were up. I would suggest that you ask them (nicely) to provide you with evidence that they did email you, because if they did that wipes out point 1,2 and 4. I'm assuming that any emails were sent via Amazon (I have no idea how this works). The problem with Amazon is that while in many ways it's a better venue for sellers, for buyers it seems MUCH more like a shop, with all that implies.

No they e-mail me directly. I have already given them my e-mail address via my "I have dispatched your item notification". So there is no excuse on that front. Don't get me wrong, the buyer contacted me within 7 days. My point is if they are not happy with sate of item upon delivery it should remain as unused and returned by return for a full refund..that I do not have a problem with at all.

I assumed the ad stated that it was 4 mega pixels?

Depends on what mood you are in. I would be rather inclined to say no to a refund and that they should read the description more acuratley next time. Also say to them that you are an independent seller not a shop and you do not offer a trial period.

If you are willing to take it back then state that it has to be in the exact same unopened/unplayed with condition it was sent out.

I think they are taking the pee.

    Good Luck.
    Carrie.

She has admitted that it is "the quality of 4 megs is not as good as she was wanting"... If that was the case 5 megs is hardly better!!

to answer your first question, tell them to get stuffed, as politley as possible (then let paypal drag you through the 'not as described' chargeback process :-(

its not the number of megapixels that matters, its the quality of the lens

my panasonic FZ3 with the lecia lens does give images with far more information than ALL of the cheap 5MP cheapo cameras i've played with and gives most 6MP cameras a run for their money

basically, the optics in the cheap cameras can't resolve the same detail, so you end up with 6 million pixels of image, containing little detail as most of it's slightly blurry anyway

and if you don't believe that, take a picture with your 1.3 megapixel phone,

now, take a picture with your 1.3 megapixes digicam (something like olympus C920UZ)

which is better?, the camera EVERY TIME

I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)
