Hummus/breadcrumbs and stick blender

Can I make hummus with a stick blender?
When I originally got the stick blender it came with a mini chopper thing as well, which I have used successfully to make hummus in. But that part broke.
So can I do hummus just with the stick and a jug? I've tried doing some fairly solid things (avocado) in a jug with the stick and it only worked when I added lots of liquid, which was fine for the avocado sauce, but hummus doesn't have much liquid in.

Or perhaps it would just be better to get a new stick blender+mini chopper.

Also I've read on here about people making breadcrumbs with stick blenders. Was that with the stick part or in a mini chopper?
Thanks!

I have a stick blender with no other attachments and I make my own breadcrumbs, and I'm just about to try houmous too. I just break up bread in to pieces to fit in bowl then attack with blender and hey presto - breadcrumbs.

I have found a recipe for houmous in my healthy fast food cookery book that doesn't need tahini, and seems to have a fair bit of liquid content, let me know if you'd like me to post the recipe.

Hi, I'd love the recipe please. I love houmous and have it nearly every day for my lunch (I'm a creature of habit ;)) but need to lose a few pounds. Thanks

I have a Tesco value stick blender and use it to make hummous at least once a week, have never tried breadcrumbs though - duh, never thought of it!

For hummous I use a can of chick peas, garlic, salt, pinch of chilli powder, bunch of corriander and a spoon of tahini paste, also oil and a little of the chick pea water if recently boiled or tinned, or tap water if not. I just chuck it all in and blend, and if it isn't blending well, I add more liquid, usually I make it fairly thick cos I like it that way! Don't blend too much else it'll have no crunch, or alternatively reserve some of the chick peas and mash them and add them to it at the end for texture.

    Hiya,

    Here you go:

420g chick peas rinsed and drained
3 tablespoons of natural low fat bio yogurt
1 small crushed clove of garlic
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
    1 tablespoon of lemon Juice
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Place all the ingredients in a bowl and blend until runny, then add seasoning to taste. Cover and chill for 1 hour to allow flavours to mingle.

    Enjoy !

ps there is also a recipe for healthy tomato salsa, roasted garlic & chive dip, and guacamole - if youwant any of these let me know.
