Freezing bread in small portions?

I remember someone saying they froze bread in either 2 or 4 slice amounts to save defrosting a whole loaf at once, but I can't remember what they froze this amount in.
I have sandwich bags to hand which I could freeze 2 slices in, not particularly economical though, and wouldn't fit 4 in. Any other ideas please?

I freeze a whole Hovis extra thick in one go and find it easy to separate a couple of slices off for toast. That said I do keep it in the bottom basket of my freezer (it's a fridge/freezer) where it doesn't get iced up like the shelves.:oWoofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw
apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.0 -
My sister uses resealable freezer bags to freeze bread in 4 or 6 slice portions for when she goes on holiday leaving mum on her own. Mum just takes out a pack of bread each morning and the bags get saved for re-using another time.0

I would say it depends on what you require - I freeze mine in half loaves which is enough for packed lunch or if we having soup etc... this is for four of us.
I keep my old bread packets, to freeze the other half of loaf in. I think at the moment I have 8 spare bread bags, it saves using freezer bags, and they are easy to tie & untie with out ripping.0 -
I freeze the whole loaf and just prise off however much I need and defrost that in old bread wrappers or even a carrier bag if I don't have anything else. I have a big chest freezer and I am small so I would be scared of falling in trying to find two slices of wholemeal. Moneysaving can be dangerous you know!0

If you have a Poundland near you check out their sandwich bags - a roll of 500 are pretty large and would easily hold 4 slices. They are thin though and don't come with any ties but I don't find that a problem.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

I freeze four slices at a time as I live alone and find that a whole loaf would be mouldy before I finished it .I sometimes have a slice of toast for breakfast or a toasted cheese sanwich for lunch but don't eat bread every day .I wrap mine up in tin foil and its perfect and I just get out a package at a time .The tinfoil is folded and used again for other stuff in the fridge or when I am cooking I sometimes use it in my remoska to wrap if I'm cooking fish, stops the smells a bit0

I slice the whole loaf and put it in plastic containers as it stops it going out of shape. Small sandwich boxes are a good size for only a few slices.0

I use old bread wrappers. I make my own bread and after i've sliced it put it into an old wrapper but do it top-to-toe so after it's frozen it's easier to separate a couple of slices at a time.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

This morning I cut and froze 3 hm sourdough loaves, just over 5 lb in weight in total. I sliced each loaf and put about 4 slices in cheap interleave bags (very thin plastic and very very cheap) and I bagged these packages in labelled poly bags. I throw the interleave out and keep the outer bags
I hate waste and already had 6 inches of a loaf left in the breadbin and whilst we are on the bread subject. I also slice left over stale bread and spread it on a tray to go into the oven after I have been baking. I then mince the dried bread and it stores for ages as breadcrumbs, so useful for coating fish, meat etc
edit: I got the bags from approved food but these are similar and the 1000 bags have lasted me 5 years so far

If I buy a sliced loaf, I just pop it in the freezer as it is - it's quite easy to take out a couple of slices (I only buy thick sliced though).
If I buy an unsliced loaf, I slice it myself, then wrap 4 slices together in cling film and pop inside a large freezer bag.
When the bread is used up, I reuse the freezer bag.0
