Son has just passed his driving test ( 17 year old ) and is buying a P reg fiat punto for £500, we live between Manchester and Oldham and have an Oldham postcode even through it is about 4 miles away from where we live, the cheapest Quote from Quinn is £3676, yet if he lived at his Grandma's in Blackpool the price is £1778, quite a big difference, its not even rough in the part of town where we live, its just not fair, maybe we should get him to move there , kill two birds with one stone, cheaper insurance and hey no teenage son, peace.:rotfl:

Oldham and the Manchester connurbation in general are the car crime capital of the UK hence the high price.
PS: Do a search on hear for Quinn, quite a few horror stories.0 -
I know Oldham and Manchester are bad for car crime, but I live 4 miles away from Oldham but have an Oldham postcode, I live in Tameside and come under Tameside council not Oldham's, so why should I be penalized, it also happens on house insurance, its afarce. I think I will complain to my local MP, it's just not on.:mad:0

What type of insurance you applying for?? i would imagine third party only will do as its not as if they will fix his car if involved in an accident(god forbid), has he tried all the usual online, elephant and the rest, has he added you to the policy?? as i got 50 pound off mine when i added my dad, although i dont want him to drive my car.
As a last resort would you insure the car and put him as a named driver, i know he would probably like to build no claims, but at that price forget about it for now.0 -

Most motor insurers use fuller postcode rating these days, at least to the accuracy of 'OLXX X', if not the full postcode. Unfortunately for you Tameside is not a good area for insurers due to accidents, theft and fraud. The premium is high because the risk is high.0 -

Really really bad idea to insure his car in your name with him as a named driver, this is known as "fronting" and is classified as fraud, its not your car and you will not be the main driver, if you are lucky it will invalidate your policy, if you are unlucky you could end up with a court case, driving an unisured vehicle and a civil suit as your insurers wont meet a claim due to you having declared incorrect facts. I can see why it might be tempting but its also tempting fate0
