Glasgow hotels near SECC. Advice please.

My boyfriend and I are going to see Fleetwood Mac in concert on Oct 22nd at the SECC in Glasgow. We were trying to book a hotel practically on the SECC's doorstep so we don't have to trail around in cars afterwards. The closest ones were The Crowne Plaza and the Campanile and the City Inn to name a few, but I've noticed on the Laterooms.com website that the hotels are either full or are charging over the usual rates or are booking only minimum two night stays. Do any of you have any tips I could follow regarding to try and secure a booking nearer the time e.g. securing any possible cancellations by other travellers at the last minute and how I would go about it? Or would it be acceptable for me to phone each hotel one by one and ask to be put on a 'list' to contact if anything becomes available?
Any tips welcome. I'm not very clued up on how hotels operate.

I stayed in that City Inn when it first opened and it was really close to the SECC, it was very, very good, I have stayed in other City Inns since and you do get what you pay for...
As for saving money I think they make the most of it when lots of people want to stay so you might have to go a bit further away and walk or take a taxi, that can easily add up to more than you are saving.0 -
The SECC is on a trainline that goes straight into Glasgow Central (2 stops - 4 minutes). Its also got very very good bus links. If you stayed in the city centre, close to the river, you really are less than 20 minutes walk from the SECC0

Most of the decent hotels in Glasgow city centre are quite expensive. As said previously the SECC has its' own station from Central Station Low level from which you then use the walkway over to the SECC. There is also a bus service which is probably better as it takes you closer to the buildings. There are several Travelodge/Days Inn/Premier Lodge places quite close.0

Hi,I work at the secc quite a lot working in the exhibition industry and always stop at the Kelvin grove hotel or the Argyll opposite... These hotels are well priced and are within a ten minute walk to the secc... Based on saucihall street ( sp) these hotels are not far from the centre , for restaurants, pubs etc... Google the hotels for there websites .... good luck..0

we stayed at the etap - it was only £34 a night very basic but clean and a really nice breakfast for a small amount - the staff couldn't have been more pleasant - it's across the river from the SECC on a area with a cinema and numerous restaurantsTitch
