Parking Permits in Jesmond, Newcastle

Parking permit regulations have recently changed in newcastle upon tyne and not in a good way!!

You are now only allowed 2 parking permits (plus a visitors permit) per household. One of the reasons for this was because over the last few years requests for permits has quadrupled and mainly due to the student population. i.e. a house with 5 students, all owning their own car.
2 permits per household is fair but the main problem is that the vehicle needs to be registered at that address!!!!

I'm a PhD student and have only been driving for a year so to keep my insurance costs down, my car is registered to my home address and not my term time address, which my insurance company are fine with. So what this new 'policy' is asking is for me to pay ~£200 extra in car insurance just to get a £20 parking permit for the year!!! I understand why this is in place but they can already monitor this as they already ask for proof of residence and the licence plate number, there is no need for the added step of changing the VO5. Ridiculous!!!!!!

Has this happened to anyone else in other areas and does anyone have any ideas on how to combat this??????

I'm already thinking of writing to my local MPs but now sure what that will achieve.

Surely the council does not insist that the visitor's permit is only used on cars registered at that address ?
For resident's the same condition would mean courtesy, hire and lease cars would be unusable.
I believe you have a logical case. Of course a logical case being listened to by a local council intent on revenue generation may not be listened to by the council.
DVLA registration does not have to be at your home address for vehicles that you own so it appears to me that the council is overstepping its powers.
