Application for tennancy declined

Hi

We've just had an application for tennancy declined and the LA say they cannot tell us why it has been declined, would there be anyway of getting the information? is it confidential?

I believe it is possible if done in writing, ask the letting agent what credit search company they use (assuming you paid for this as part of the application?).

Alternatively, sign up for one of the free credit report trials - look for adverse history over the last 12 months.

Don't read too much into the actual score, the other information should highlight any issues.

    Good Luck

Have a google for Data Protection Act Subject Access Requests. If they hold identifiable information about you then they must release it you on request, though they can charge a few quid for it.

I completely forgot about that, even after submitting two personally :)

Would cost upto £10 and they have 40 days to provide the information.
  • Ok thank you folks, I've checked my credit file and it seems ok. OH file is ok - however I'm not working as I look after my DD full time and my OH is self employed. We provided a Guarentor as we've had trouble renting before because of the self employment.

What I'm also wondering is if we got a bad reference from previous land lords, but again, that seems highly unlikely.

Perhaps there was more than one application for the said property and LA/LL just perferred the other applicants.

OP I don't mean to try and scare you here but please be careful as we applied for a rented property with a small company who refused us because we "failed the credit checks" despite us doing a search online after and not finding anything bad (we just thought they had high standards!) We were desperate to move at the time so asked if there was anything we could do such as providing a guarantor but they wouldn't let us as in theory the person that we chose could move/die etc. which we fell for at the time :o But they did tell us that we could put an extra 3 months rent up front which we could have back at the end of our tenancy- So we borrowed the money from family, moved in and guess what..... The company director b*ggered off with hundreds of tenants and landlords money 6 months after!!!!

Its probably not like that at all but I will be thinking twice before being asked to put extra money up front etc. in future :)

maybe, that had crossed my mind - and I'm really concerned as I have paid quite a bit of money for the admin and checks.
