Why are you not asking the previous supplier for the balance that they owe you? Your post is a little confusing. It implies you are asking the wrong party.

Have you received a first bill from your current supplier and the final bill from your previous supplier? Do the meter readings and dates correspond correctly? If yes, then surely it is your previous supplier who owes you the money?
  • Hi,

I presume that you built up your credit balance with your previous supplier, so you can't expect SP to refund you.

It's like you lending your buddie Charlie money then expecting his mate Phil to pay you back.

I have my final bill reading for my meter from the previous supplier which states how much energy i have used and its the number i also provided scottiish power ,yet they have siad that the other supplier gave them a different number.Scottish power told me monday that if i forwarded the paper bill they would correct it so i sent an email & they then decided they wouldnt honour it .They more than likely thought i had thrown away the old bills from other supplier as i switched over 11 months ago but i still kept them ,;its only a small amount but i feel cheated by scottish power who also have are saying that the online screen in a totally different mater is different to what mine says .Under the gas on mine its shows i used over 160 units of gas directly under the gas section ;yet i havnt used any gas since i moved to them and have bills going back years showing its at the same number
  • As stated previously the first thing you need to do is to check the final meter readings on your previous supplier's bill, against the SPs start readings. The dates and readings should be exactly the same. If not you are right to go back to SP and have them correct it, as it's your new supplier's responsibility to provide these to the old supplier. Even though you supplied meter readings, these companies sometimes send out a meter reader to visit, and then they prefer to use these readings instead. So the final readings you took may not be the ones they use. As long as the meter readings and dates tally there should be no problem.

If you aren't using gas, and your meter reading is exactly the same as it was 12 months ago, (if I understand you correctly), are you saying that the closing and opening readings on the bills are 160 units higher than your current reading? If so, then I'd submit my own reading to SP and enter it into the online system. Or better still, request SP to read the meter.
