US Bidder thought the price was in Dollars

I have just recently opened my listings to include the US and this has brought new problems, as follows:-

I bid on this item through auction sniper & believed I was bidding in US dollars & that the program would adjust it into pounds. So when I looked at the results today, I had bid much more than I intended. I understand that this is my mistake & that I'm responsible for it, but I'm wondering if you would be willing to offer it to the second bidder & see if they want it.

I am sure it was a genuine mistake on there behalf and am willing to give the second chance offer. My question is will I be out of pocket on the FVF from the original winner or will this be refunded if the second chance offer is taken up.

When I read the title, I was about to post that what the bidder had said was rubbish. As from US ebay, it will show both the price in both £ and $ for a UK based auction...
But.. if I remember correctly, auction sniper only asks you to put a number in, and defaults to the 'home currency' for that auction.
So while the bidder should have been paying more attention, I think they're telling the truth too.
I haven't done a second chance offer for ages, but when I did, I don't recall the difference in FVFs being refunded.

If you go for a second chance offer then the original FVFs still remain payable, so you pay twice.

Personally if buyers don't understand what they are doing then they should take more care when using snipers, or ebay generally. Do not go for a mutual non paying bidder dispute as the buyer can respond wrongly to it and you will not get your FVFs back. In all cases go for a full NPB on day 7 and be guaranteed to get your fees back.

Just to update the situation. I sent the item to the original winner as the second chace offer had no response. Now they say the item was broken on arrival. (I have my own thoughts on that). I have asked them to return it and I will refund them.
A new rule I have learnt when dealing with people is that if there's a problem at the beginning of a transaction it can result in a problem at the end.

As I've pointed out on here before.... with citizens of the US, you are dealing with a nation that re-elected George W Bush!! Need I say more about their stupidity levels?
